Grandma Francis was the recipient of a ridiculous phone scam from a man claiming to be my brother Ryan.
Ryan Fishing in Canada
The phone call went something like this..
Caller: “Hey grandma this is your grandson.”
Grandma: “Oh really which one? You sound like Ryan.”
Caller: “Yah this is Ryan, I’m up fishing in Canada…”
The caller claiming to be my brother went on to tell grandma that he and his friends were up fishing in Canada and they had caught some fish that were out of season, so the police had fined them $300 dollars. He then told her he didn’t have the money to pay it and asked if she would send him the money.
At this point grandpa got on the phone and started asking the guy questions. Somewhere in questioning process the guy hung up, his scam had been foiled because he couldn’t answer the questions and my grandparents figured out that he wasn’t really my brother Ryan.
It was really funny when grandma told us the story, Ryan had this funny half confused, half amused look on his face, and everyone thought that it was the most ridiculous scam they had ever heard. My dad then told us that a few days later grandpa called at 6am, and asked if Ryan was up fishing in Canada.
I can just imagine my dad fresh out of bed at 6am still trying to wake up and getting a call out of the blue from my grandpa asking if Ryan was on a fishing trip in Canada.. Haha ahhh, fun times up in Michigan.
